Egyptian Rituals

Rituals are an integral part of our daily life, whether we are aware of it or not.  When we wake up in the morning, we perform certain activities in a specific order and, before we go to sleep at night, we perform other activities in a specific order.  These common behavioural patterns are rituals.  They might not be meaningful but they carry the essence of a ritual.  The ancient Egyptian religion was highly ritualistic, involving daily ceremonial activities and rituals, which were of a highly evolved spiritual nature. Some of them were only imparted to the inner circle of initiates, while some were also revealed to non-initiates. This book describes the four principal types of ancient Egyptian rituals: initiation, temple rituals, festivals and funerary rituals, in addition to explaining the use of ritual aids, such as stones, metals, oils, incense, candles and the Wands of Heru (Horus).

The Triads of the Immortals of Egypt

The word 'triad' is derived from the Latin word 'triadis', meaning a group or set of three connected people or things.  In Egyptian, it is called Xemet, meaning a group of three.  In the ancient Egyptian religion, the concept of a divine family consisted of three members: a father, mother and child.  Most Egyptian temples had both a Paut (Ennead or group of nine natural laws) and a triad.  This book summarises the eleven most famous triads of the Immortals of ancient Egypt and their members, including the triads of Elephantine, Memphis, Thebes, Kom Ombo, Latopolis, Edfu, Dendera, Crocodilopolis, Mendes, Heliopolis and Abydos.

Dwat
A Detailed Guide to the Afterlife

The kingdom of the Dwat (netherworld) is the ectypal world, or the world of laws and shadows, and the domain of the intermediate life of the soul in its journey through to heaven.  It exists at night but is invisible to us and it is described in the Book of Em-Dwat ('The Book of what is in the Dwat') as a circular valley, surrounded by mountains. One chain of these mountains separates the valley of the Dwat from earth and the other separates it from heaven.  This book describes and illustrates the twelve divisions of the Dwat, each of which represents one hour of the night.

The Ancient Egyptian Mathematics

The ancient Egyptian mathematics, Seqednu, studies two major phenomena: multitude and magnitude. Multitude is divided into two major subjects: arithmetic, or the relationship of the part to itself; and music, which is the relationship of one part to other parts. Magnitude is also divided into three major subjects: geometry of Surfaces; geometry of Solids or stereometry, which is the process of calculating the surface area and the volume of solids; and astrology, which studies the influence of the stars of heaven upon earth.
